    ie7 not working right

Got a strange problem, ie7 won't let me in to secure sites or run windows update. If I try to go to a site like my bank, when I hit the log in button nothing happens at all. I tried uninstalling 7 and the problem is still there in ie6. I tried to re-install 7, it says it failed and I should use windows update, but that doesn't work, I just get a blank screen. I restarted the pc and went into ie and it looked like ie7 tried to install, the runonce screen comes up blank and it says done. If I hit home it goes there ok but I still can't log into any sites. What the hell?

I use Sea Monkey! It is another version of firefox. IE 7 I also have. When
I surf with 7 I have restrictions. And some sites have pictures which I view
With white background and red X. So ,I use sea monkey to navigate the net.

Last thing I remember, running for the door,
I had to find the passage back to the place
    I was before.

I wish that was an option, I put firefox on itand it works but my customer uses this pc for his autobody business and a lot of the sites he buys parts from will only work with ie. I tried disabling the firewall, antivirus, ran adaware and spybot, nothing wrong. It is running xp pro with sp2, tried sp3 for the heck of it.

There are a couple of things this might be,

The first is the SSL/Tsl type

Restart IE when you have selected TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 and unchecked SSL 2.0

    If that doesn't work try
In the Security tab, click on the trusted sites icon and then add the domain for the site you want to trust. Restart IE

    And if that doesn't work

What is the setting under privacy tab? Try medium if it's higher than medium
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I realize that is IE6, but the registry tweaks should be pertinent as should be the info re troubleshooting.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking port 443.
Go to Start | Run and enter these commans (press <Enter after each one).

I would be trying to fix the windows update and see if thats a place to begin the repairs.
There is out there a windows update repair tool which works very well.
    Its called wurtbeta.exe
    It can be found here.

I merely found this file so as to its viral possibilities, as allways scan it before you use it. I did download and scan it and it appears valid and clean

    Thanks for the replies.
Noonoo, I will look at those settings and let you know next week.
Ferret, thanks for the tip and download. If the settings Noonoo mentioned don't solve this, I will try the update repair download.

    Success!

I checked the settings Noonoo mentioned but they were ok. I ran the program that Ferrit mentioned and it worked like a charm, great find. Thanks for the help!
