I've found the Gigabyte to be stable and trouble free. One thing to keep in mind while reading reviews of the two boards in question is that the MSI has 31 reviews vs. 132 for the Gigabyte. In the end, Newegg users gave both boards an average of 4 stars. I like user reviews; in fact I think they are often more useful than "professional" reviews, but there's a tendency for them to get skewed to the extreme ends of the bell curve. There's also the "grain of salt" factor.

My general observation would be that Vista is more unforgiving of memory problems than XP, and a lot of issues with systems booting, rebooting, waking up from sleep mode (especially hybrid sleep mode) are usually RAM related.

Well I put everything together and it booted first time. Its shows my 650 Gb drive as IDE on SATA channel 2 Master. I had a hecka hard time getting the board to go in the I/O panel, power switch and hd light and everything worked first time except floppy drive light stayes on, the cable must be in backwards. ...Don

Yep, twisted end to the floppy drive, red stripe should be pin1 to pin1...

Windows Vista installed very smoothly. Not one problem. The chipset drivers and the Land drivers also installed smoothly. I installed Vista on a WD 100 Gig IDE hard drive. My 650-gig SATA hard drive doesn’t show up in my computer but when you go to device manager it is listed under disk drives.Going to install video card drivers next. How can I get this drive to show up??...Don

You need to partition and format it for it to show up in Computer.

Computer only shows drives that are ready for read/write

Thank you NooNoo and everyone who pointed me to Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H Board. You people are very thoughtful, and unselfish in helping people on this board. I am sure my machine isn’t perfect but when I have any problems I know where to get some great support…..Don
