Question BIOS v. 3.08 for Asus P5BW-LA mobo

    Hello,

I desperately want the original BIOS version 3.08 for my Asus P5BW-LA mobo.
My machine is Compaq/HP Media Centre.
Can't find it on HP's site.
Anyone can post the dumped ROM or BIN?
Very, very much apreciated for any replies with suggestions.

Many, many thanks in advance for replying.

PS: backup of BIOS file can be made with program "Flash.exe".
"Flash.exe" can be extracted with e.g. WinRAR form the files
from HP's site: sp35153.exe (XP) or sp26920.exe (Vista)

This is an OEM board, see here Therefore there won't be a bios on Asus. There is a bios flash supplied by HP here but it may not be for your OEM... which machine did the board come from?

Why do you need to flash the bios?

Thank you NooNoo for the link that I also visited before.

    - Figured out the ASUS issue. (no BIOS available).
    - The HP site seems like an upgrade....
    - my machine: Compaq Presario Media Center SR2089NL with Asus P5BW-LA
upgraded with Geforce 8600 GT, running Win XP + SP2 + recent hotfixes.

My problem after the BIOS update:
When my PC is working hard for about more than 0.5 hour
(gaming) my fans are making heavy noise for some seconds.
I consulted an HP employee who told me that the fan behaviour
was intended in the new BIOS....
So I wanna flash in order to downgrade my BIOS.

I have my PC for about 1.5 years and with my old BIOS had never had problems with my hardware and software config.

Greetings and thank you for the quick reply.

OK so the compaq version of hp bios is 3.17 here but has the same text as the hp one.

Can you have another word with the HP employee and ask them for the previous file?

    Hi NooNoo,

Thanks again for the reply again!

    My older version was 3.08
Managed to contact HP employee and he told me that
I could downgrade my BIOS maybe with the Vista version
    located here:
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwar...-1/sp26920.exe
    or with description:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3347740

But strangly the description of the files (your link and the previous mentioned link) seems to be the same, both for Xp as Vista.
So I mailed the HP guy again if he knows for
sure the ROM would implement a downgrade of my BIOS....
    Waiting for his reply now.

    Pending for solution .....

HP (and now Compaq) use SPnumber.exe for all their files. Just compare the file numbers to see if they are the same. 26920 is the same as the HP version... so you are right, it's the same file, just the HP version.

You could just get quieter fans

    Hi NooNoo,

    Thanks again for your reply.
You could just get quieter fans
That could be true, but in the past 1.5 years I had no problems with them,
    just after the BIOS "upgrade"....
Now I don't also hear them as long my CPU and GPU usage is not too
    heavily used.

I extracted the both spxxx files, and XP version gives 317.rom (currently now
in my system) and Vista version gives 508.rom.
3.17 and 5.18 are also the file versions of spxxx.exe
Just saved the current BIOS ROM (v. 3.17) to HDD with flash.exe, just in case.

    Pending for solution...

From the point of view of solving the problem "quickly" getting quieter fans would give you a solution, plus you would not expose yourself to malicious people who might send you a useless bios update. Unless HP/Compaq are able to supply you with the older bios file, I think you are stuck.

    Hi and thanks again NooNoo,

Yep you're right, that's why I came to this forum, so that
someone could provide me some file like "308.rom" or "308.bin"

HP provides a unthoughtfull utility that can't be stopped when
clicked at it while not intended....

    Still waiting for HP's reply.
