Disk Defragmenter Doesn't Work - Help
When I open up Disk Defragmenter to defragment my system, I get a window that says that it can't start. In the past, I have disabled some services to start my computer faster. Could this be the problem? If so, which services are responsible for making Disk Defragmenter work?

How much disk space have you got free? If it's less that 15% of the drive, defrag doesn't have the space to work.... since it needs to move files around to defrag them.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Disabling services can cause all kinds of problems. Its a risky business.
Defrag as NooNoo said sometimes wont run because of low disk space.
It could also be an indication the drive is having some problems.

Whats up NooNoo? I got 91% free disk space. Now what should I do?

What is the actual message you get when you attempt to defrag?
Have you run Chkdsk recently? With what switches... /r or /f or none? Or did you start check disk from the system tools and tick both boxes for auto repair and full scan?

You can try re-registering the necessary files:
edit -not sure that is absolutely correct - will do some Kelly's Korner looking.
edit #2; per Kelly's Korner - try #291, reboot - works? -great. Not, try 280.

CCT, thanks for the reply. When I looked into the xp tweaks in the web page you suggested, I was given the following that confused me:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}]
@="DfrgSnapin Class"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}\InprocServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\dfrgsnap.dll"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}\ProgID]
@="DfrgSnapin.DfrgSnapin.1"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}\TypeLib]
@="{CD83A785-6F75-11D2-A385-00609772642E}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}\VersionIndependentProgID]
@="DfrgSnapin.DfrgSnapin"
Now, I've done tweaks in the registry before. However, I don't understand, for example, what the info wants me to do after the "@=" sign, as stated below:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{43668E21-2636-11D1-A1CE-0080C88593A5}]
@="DfrgSnapin Class"
Now, do I have to add "DfrgSnapin Class" to this part of the registry? I'm confused.

When you click on the KK download and save it (291 for example) you get a file 'defragsnapin.re*g'
that you simply click on to install.
.reg files are automatic registry editting files.

When I click on #291 from your recommended site, I don't get a file to download. All I see are the registry lines that I had posted above.

If I go there and left click on the entry beside 291 I get the open, save, cancel windows in XP.
I don't know what your problem interfacing is caused by.
Sorry.
edit: open, save, cancel = run, save, cancel

CCT, thanks for the info. I got it to save through your left click advice. However, I'm still unable to run disk defragmenter. I did download an app called, 'Smart Defrag', though. It did the job, but it made my computer slower. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

I am going to suggest you get some expert help on removing virus/malware infections.
Noo Noo or someone else here may have some recommendations.
Defragging should Not slow up a comp, and it should be easy to re-initiate.
Thus, I think you have a baddy or more than one.

Since chkdsk won't run either, that's exactly what I have suggested... he has a bug that wants to stay hidden.
