SCSI/RAID Host Controller Problem
Going through my device manager and this is the only thing that has a conflict error.
SCSI/RAID Host Controller
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
Running Windows Vista, not sure what other info I might need to give.

Hmmm that might have something to do with your DVD problem.
Motherboard make and model please and whether vista is 64 or 32 bit.
You need to install the chipset drivers...
You should try booting to safe mode and removing the device then rebooting to normal mode and see if it installs normally.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Right, did you get the chipset drivers downloaded?

I take it you mean the ones from the ECS website and NOT the MSI correct? If so the ECS only lists chipset for 2000/XP. There are "NVIDIA Windows IDE Drivers" for Vista and thats it.

Drache, it looks as though you have an ECS 6100SM-M2 motherboard. If you don't have your original driver CD, you can download the drivers from ECS here. The chipset driver is 3rd on the list. Or, you could probably use the nForce 405 drivers from nVidia.
Edit: Like ships crossing in the night, we're crossing posts. The drivers ECS lists as IDE drivers for Vista are the chipset drivers. I'd suggest the download from nVida, as ECS is likely to be about as slow as dialup

EDIT: I see you mean the IDE drivers
I'm only running dialup so this will take the rest of the day to download.

OUCH! You're temporarily stuck with dialup?! Bummer! I meant that ECS site is normally tortuously slow. This is a 69.2 MB download, so you need to find someone you can hit on for a favor. nVidia would still be the faster source.

Actually there is ONLY dialup in town!
And the NVIDIA Windows IDE Drivers (Vista) is 112mb
The NVIDIA Windows Chipset Drivers are 39.5mb but I don't know if I can use this since it states only for Windows 2000/XP and not Vista.

The size depends on the version you're looking at. The Feb. 05/2007 version on nVidia's site is indeed 69.2 MB. Still, it could be worse. Newer versions of the driver support more chipsets and are much larger. V.15.9 (03/16/2009) is a whopping 159 MB.
Anyway, I don't envy you the long download ahead. These days, I can't imagine having to revert to dialup. I literally cannot imagine how I could run my business without fast Internet access. Good luck with this!
