    usb flash drive formating

    hi all
    ok another prob lol
my mate put a 3D software onto my usb stick. 16gb stick.

i put it in my usb slot it said i have to format the disk in drive I , only gives u option to format it or cancell.

if i cancell dnt think i can load the software.

but if i format the disk il loose that software wont i? it says it will erase all data on this disk.

should i have formated the ubs stick first before my mate put the software on it?

    can someone help me?

    thanx

Given that your drive is now, basically, history, here's a thing to try.

    Go here; http://ap.apacer.com/ap/support/downloads.asp

Look at the various models for a drive same size as yours, then download the repair tool for that drive model and run it.

"i put it in my usb slot it said i have to format the disk in drive I , only gives u option to format it or cancell."

ME: "Given that your drive is now, basically, history, here's a thing to try."

"my gosh thats news to me my drive is histroy?"

ME: Well, I was assuming what you said meant something logical, like Drive 'I' was the USB stick and that it isn't now recognized and in most cases that means it is shot!

BUT, it would seem that isn't the case fron your response so I'll just back away and someone else can help you.

    hi all
ok getting closer to solving this.
turns out my usb stick is either raw or fat. i gues its raw.

cant find how to convert raw drives sticks to ntfs , tried using comand prompt but said it cant convert raw.

anyone know here where i can look for converting raw drives?

If XP/Vista/Windows7 then disk management right click the usb drive if seen there and partition it. You will then be able to format it.

    Start
    control Panel
    Administrative Tools
    Computer Management
    Disk Management
Make sure the drive you click on is the usb drive

When you right click on the drive do you get an option to take it online? If so have you tried you set it to online?
If it does go online check and see if you now are able to access the files on it.

If it says its online now can you access it?
Does it have a drive letter assigned to it?
Will it allow a right click and format now?
