win xp wont boot without firewire

Hi , new user here .
I have been using my "older" computer for a few tasks , and today tried to copy some video from a cam corder to hard drive and discovered it didnt want to "find " the camers when connected through the firewire card .
After removing the card i found win xp wouldn't boot up without the firewire crad installed . IS THIS NORMAL?
I tried booting from my win xp disc without the firewire card and it wouldnt do that either .
only way it would boot is with a firewire card installed . IS THIS RIGHT?
I cant tell u what card is install , and i cant find an installation disc for the card either .
Some advice please , in fairly simple terms would be appreciated .
    cheers

You can reference Bill Drake's answer here; http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/...boot-with.aspx

Basically, checking the Bios Boot Sequence, and if the firewire shows as a boot device, diabling it may fix the issue.
