please could someone tell me the correct command for
start \ run sfc\\ scannow

It's start run sfc /scannow
note the space between sfc and /scannow

Keep in mind the command is 'sfc /scannow' (no quotes)- execution of the command involves clicking start, then run, and entering that command line in the box.
