A quick flash of an old wallpaper before shutting down

I did a search but nothing helps.
I have noticed other occurences of this situation, I just never asked but now I am getting a little upset. When I power down my computer right before shuting off, after all the icons are gone there is this quick flash of an old background. Right now I have no wallpaper, I am using that blue screen and yet when I shut it off there it is for a second or two, my old background which by the way happens to have been deleted from my system. It does not exist, I have that picture in a cd but not in any folder in my computer. How can I stop that from continue to happen?
I am runnig Windows Xp Sp3

If XP, have a look in C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ for Wallpaper1.bmp or whatever.


Also in C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\

If you have Active Desktop turned on, that will cause the problem you're talking about. Some .bmp files require that for them to be used as wallpaper. You might try turning that off.

I had tried to turn "Active Desktop" off but I could not find that option in "properties" I found the picture though. It was in C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp What surprises me is that the name of the picture I had used as background is, for instance "pic006.jpg" and it was in that folder as Wallpaper.bmp And \Application Data\ was a hidden folder. No wonder I was trying to find it in my system to delete it but to no avail. Just renaming it from wallpaper.bmp to its original name pic006.jpg solved it, and moving the file too. Even when I left the same extension pic006.bmp. I tried it, but I deleted it anyways.
