Can't see Memorex DVD burner x16 Double Layer

I have a Memorex DVD burner x16 Double Layer.
I connect it to my Windows XP PC via USB cable.
The computer does not see the drive wither in My Computer or in the Device Manager.

you either had a bad cord or a broken drive
One Script to rule them all.
    One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
    and clean up after itself.

Yes, as Niclo says, damaged/fractured USB cable, faulty drive or power pack. If the drive's power/activity light lights up & drawer opens/closes or disc loads if it's a slot loader, then presumably the power pack is OK.
