Inspiron 3200 notebook/Crystal sound card, blue screen
Hi! I just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 3200 notebook. I was not given a Dell recovery disc and there was no OS installed. I installed Win 98 SE on the notebook and installed the newest drivers (which I downloaded from Dell's support page for the I3200)for all of the devices. As soon as I installed the Crystal audio drivers I experienced the "fatal exception" blue screen and was unable to reboot into Windows at all until I booted into Safe Mode and disabled the sound card in Device Manager. Now, except for the lack of sound, everything is working fine. But I really don't want to leave this machine mute. Dell has been of no help, writing me back that I should run their diagnostic program, even after I had already written them that I had already the diag and it reported that all was well with everything, including the sound. Bah! Is anyone familiar with this problem and can anyone help me solve it? Thanks, Ocarina

You could try and find out what crystal card it is and download fresh drivers from windrivers. Reinstall the card. If this does not work check if the sound card is sharing an IRQ and conflicting with another device. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
