System
When I try to make a dvd using nero, while it's encoding to copy to the disk, my computer shuts down. I don't know if my processor is over heating or what's happening. My fans are running, I have a heatsink and fan and a case fan. My specs are:
Windows XP
Asus M3N78 Pro motherboard
AM2 6000 Phenom processor
4 gb ram

I would be trying another dvd burner to see if that does it as well.
Does the computer shut down at any other time?

No, this is the only time I have noticed. How does the burner figure in the problem when it's still encoding and not burning to disk yet?

I haven't used Nero in several years because some of the modules such as Vision Express were so buggy as to be useless. So, Nero would definitely be the primary suspect. You would think that by now, everybody's DVD authoring and burning software would be stable, but it ain't so. For basic day-in-day out dvd creation, I use Roxio Pro 2010. For more complex projects I use Pinnacle Studio 14. I've also used Premier Elements in several versions (currently have 9) and found it found it somewhat frustrating to use, and pretty buggy.

Just asking question.
You should have a program like speedfan which can showe you temps and such.
That may give you a clue.

That's fine.

I think the obvious thing to try is a different burning program. If Nero is the problem, re-installing the program may cure it, but it may not, so trying a different program likely gives a more useful result.

I reinstalled Nero and had the same results. I tried Adobe Premiere Elements and the computer shut down as I was working on my clips.

You still haven't tried an other burning software INSTEAD of Nero which has been suggested more than once. Download a free/open source burning software and test it to make sure it's not your hardware or Nero. I understand you're holding out for the magic "this is how it's fixed solution" but in order to get to that point we need to single out what's the real issue. Reinstalling Nero a thousand times will not get us to that point so it's best to try other options to get our answers.
As far as premiere elements is concerned. If it shut down mid-usage it's a problem with the computer overheating or a hardware malfunction that's affecting more than just Nero.
One Script to rule them all.
One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
and clean up after itself.

Are we talking completely powered off or restarting ?
Another thing i would never trust Asus temp monitoring on AMD.
They are notorious for being wrong.
Also check in the bios if any heat limit is set for shutdown.

If its completely shutting down them i assume something to do with heat settings in the bios. Turn them off completely and check

Well, it does start to look as though the shutdown issue is hardware related, though I still say that Nero and Premiere Elements are about the least stable programs you could choose for testing. But, in addition to overheating, a failing or inadequate power supply could be at fault too. Try running Prime95 and see if the system shuts down. Prime 95 stresses your hardware as much as anything I know. So, that should help narrow the field a little more.
If Prime95 can't shut down your system, then I would update my chipset and graphics drives, and see if that works. BTW, have you looked at Event Viewer to see if there is anything helpful in the logs?
One of the things that makes current video editors, authoring software, etc. hard to troubleshoot is that many programs uses your GPU to accelerate processing, which adds another layer of driver issues as well as video card cooling and additional PSU considerations to the mix.
