    Using keyboard in bios

When I go into setup by pressing F1, the keyboard stops working. It works fine in windows and booting into setup then nothing.

    System:
    Windows Xp in Gateway G6-400

USB keyboard by any chance? Try a PS/2 keyboard and make sure the USB support is enabled.

No, it's a PS/2. With the keyboard not working in the bios I can't enable anything.

Is that a PII 400MHz computer from many many years ago?!?

It won't hurt to try another keyboard.

If another keyboard didn't help, sounds like it may be a flaky/failed motherboard.

Another thought; if it is working in Windows®, I would try turning it off, disconnecting it from any power, and using the jumper on the motherboard to reset the CMOS.This will bring it into factory settings, and costs nothing to try. Good luck!

2 thoughts. Try an old school ps2, the clunky 7 pound heavy cream colored ones. Second thought is, try the old method of remove peripherals and cards leaving only the keyboard, video, drives, fans, memory and processor plugged in.
