    Question no bluetooth in services.msc

I'm trying to install Bluetooth adapter .
    Xp home sp3.

    I don't see blue tooth in services.MSC.

The manufacturer told me to try this but it didn't work.
    Still no Bluetooth.

Based on MS's article(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911894), one cause could be a missing registry key for the Bluetooth Support Service. Here are the steps to add the registry key manually:
Note: XP SP3 must be installed
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. In the left pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
    4. Type bthsvcs, and then press ENTER.
    5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type bthserv, and then click OK.
    7. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
    8. Restart the computer.

You should see both "Bluetooth Service" and "Bluetooth Support Service" in "services.msc".

Does changing the "bthserv" to "BthServ" (and rebooting) make any difference?

Can you give us some details as to what Bluetooth device you are installing?
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

Bluetooth is a very useful technology, but it can be a real PITA to set up and troubleshoot. I'm having fits trying to get my headset to stay connected to my phone. Currently, I can't even get them paired consistently. Naturally, the headset is about 2 weeks out of warranty. So, is it a bad headset, a problem with the phone's hardware, a glitch in my recent Android upgrade? Do I have a clue? Heck, I guess I really wanted a new headset anyway.

I'm installing a broadcom bluetooth dongle.

I didn't try the manual registry changes again.
I found some videos on youtube that say to run fsquirt.exe that is windows/system32.

Do you think that will work?

If your Bluetooth device isn't being recognized correctly, I don't see why Microsoft's Bluetooth file transfer utility would fix the issue. On the other hand, it certainly wouldn't hurt anything. Have you looked at Broadcom's Bluetooth update here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php ?

That's the problem. Broadcoms update/install utility won't work unless Bluetooth is in services
    .msc

With the device plugged in have you looked in the hardware device manager to see if it is recognized or do you have a device with a yellow exclamation point beside it? Have you tried other USB slots, and or tried a different pc to see if maybe it might be DOA?

    It has the yellow !

I think it was under other devices? Not identified as Bluetooth.

Also I didn't use the windows driver search that comes up when the device is plugged in.
Since I was trying to use the manfactuers driver.

Double click on the other devices, it will come up stating driver not installed, click on reinstall, then point it to where the driver is located, it should then install and update the registry so it can be seen.

The problem is that the driver isn't located anywhere.

Like I said the driver install won't run until I get Bluetooth into services.msc

Not knowing the exact model of your "dongle" see if THIS will help you in some way.

I've completed the regedit and still do not have any bluetooth devices.

I've completed the steps below and still only have: bluetooth hid switch service in the "services" and only "bluetooth local com" in control panel. I used to have bluetooth a long time ago and have never really used it. Help......I'm trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy phone to my pc to back up pictures and files. Thanks!

Welcome to Windrivers surfawahine. The simplest way to accomplish what you need is to go HERE put your phone model in and download the USB driver. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4, use this and also downloaded the Desktop Manager for a 1 time fee of $10.00.
