Hello, i bought a laptop at a garage sale today, and it has Ubuntu software on it. I have a copy of Windows Vista software with the keycode, but the computer has a keycode sticker on it. Which keycode should i use when i install Windows Vista?

    Well here is the issue.
First you need a disc to match the version for the sticker on the bottom if you want to use that.
Like Vista Home Premium with a Vista Home Premium sticker.
Now you can use the one you have as long as its matched to the serial you have again.

Ubuntu appears to be the only software that is on the harddrive, is there any way to access the portion of the harddrive that will let you do a restore?

I am betting no once the linux was put on it may have trashed the restore partition
Just install the vista you have
Most likely if its Vista it was Home Premium on the system anyway

It depends what you mean by boot up. If you mean will it boot to the BIOS screen yes it will.

Put your windows disk in the drive. Shut down and reboot. Does it go into setup? If not, you need to press either f10, f11, or f12, depending on the make of the laptop. This will give you the choice of which media to boot from first.

When i put my Windows Vista dvd in my computer will not load the disk, but when i put my Windows XP dvd in my drive the computer will load and let me view the contents, but the install windows button is not highlighted so i cannot install the O/S. i have install a program called wine that is suppose to run windows software inside of ubunta.

You cannot be running Ubuntu when you do this. Please follow the instructions I gave you previously. Put the DVD in the drive. Shut down the computer and REBOOT. Does it go into setup? If not, you need to press either f10, f11, or f12, depending on the make of the laptop. This will give you the choice of which media to boot from first.

Don't forget sometimes it could be DEL depending on the Motherboard.
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!
