VPN Help

I have a client that wants their employees, (6) to be able to remote in. They are concerned about security. They want a vpn. I have zero experience with this. Does the business get this? Is it something that is installed on the work machines?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

In short, I don't think that you want to go that direction... It might help protect the users but not the company's server.

The Company could set their servers to ONLY allow connection from six very specific IP Addresses. They would have very tough passwords for that connects AND very restricted access to the sever. Or the server could be a machine that does nothing but receive the connections.... From there they have networked shortcuts to needed company programs.

The server is running Server Essentials 2012. It is setup as just a file server. No DHCP, nothing else. All internet traffic goes through a router. They want to RDP to their individual desktops.

Why do you think a VPN is not a good idea? I read that article you posted. I've read numerous others, also. What am I missing?

SpywareDr knows more about this stuff than I do..... BUT.

Your people would make a VPN connection with some third party server somewhere in the world.... Doing that would make them anonymous. Then they'd attempt to make a RDP connection to YOUR server..... I am uncertain how you'd know it was them to let them in...

VPN's are also famous for sucking away bandwidth.
