WinMe Updating drivers or software problems
This one is new to me. WinMe clean install has been solid for about 6 weeks. Went to install newest 4n1 drivers and the installation stalled out when starting to copy files. Closed program and tried again. Same results. Tried installing DX8a update same problem get through inital screens and eula and then file transfer box pops up and hangs. Close program and try again same result. Game voice 1.2 beta update same results. I can install new software from cd's no problem but anytime I try to update it stalls out. Even tried to update video drivers today and same thing. This one definately has me stumped. I used system restore to last known good and problem persists so don't really know how long this has been going on.
WinME Clean install current
ABit Kt7,1 gig tbird,128mbr,40gig Maxtor, No raid,SBLIVE.

Ok I have got the scoop. While I don't run Norton Utilities I did accidently click on a selfexecutable file for Norton Ghost but aborted the install. Apparently this was the culprit. It created over 32,000 "0" byte inf files in the C:\Windows\Inf directory. By deleting all of these files all is back to normal. Man you talk about obscure problem this one takes the cake. I only noticed it last night when I ran a complete AV scan with InnoculateIT and noticed all of the INF files it was scanning. Then someone emailed me this morning about the same problem.
