Download tweakie 3.0 its a pretty good program and it will help you backup you email stuff. If you dont like that go to windows\application data\microsoft\address book\*.wab thats the file you want to backup.
Or go to find files and type *.wab. Keystone

If you are using Outlook, you can find step by step instructions from the Microsoft Knowledge Base here, or if you are using Outlook Express - here.

From file menu choose export address book, save file to floppy, when you've reinstalled just import it back.

You can find the file outlook.pst for Outlook 97/98/2k hidden in various places on your hard drive depending on OS version. In Windows 2000 it is in x:\documents and settins\%username%\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook
I am not sure where it is in 9x or winNT
