Post Help! System dead - URGENT!

Hi, I have a project to finish for tonightor else I might loose my job.

Yesterday I replaced my old Volcano II fan with the Dragon orb but after I did that my system was dead! When I turned it on the lights on the CD/Tape drives flashed every 4 seconds and there was no POST beep and a blank screen. I may have hit the motherboard when I took the old fan out.

If I start it with no ram it does "beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeep..." so I guess my ram is OK, if I start it with no CPU or RAM it does the same as if I start it with both RAM and CPU.

I'm guessing my motherboard is broken but could it be somethig else before I go get a new motherboard (BTW i just changed it 2-3 weeks ago!)?

    Thanks

More details are needed... what happened after to replaced the fan? what type of board/CPU? If it's AMD, i'd take a shot in the dark and say it was either damaged with the fan installation, or the fan installation was not done properly, causing the CPU to overheat.

I have an Asus A7V266-E RAID modo with an athlon 1.4. When I changed my fan it smelled a bit like overheating but that may have been because it was touching the heatsink when it was spinning at 7000rpm.

I remember hiting the mobo's circuits a few times by accident when it tried to get the old heatsink out.

How can I be sure where the problem is?

    Thanks

Am I supposed to hear the POST beep if I start the mobo with no CPU? Because I don't...

This could tell me whether the problem is in the mobo or the cpu.

No post beeps? More than likely your CPU. Makes sure it's in good shape and there are no scorch marks, most places i know wont replace a CPU that died because of overheating

It happens, all i can recommend is trying to RMA it. However, i would first try a Test CPU if possible.

My CPU was still working even with the huge hole it has in it! It was my motherboard that was damaged (that's what I though because I banged it with a screw driver by accident when i remove my old fan). No I got a new motherboard but my new dragin orb 3 fan makes my PC sound like a central vacuum cleaner (literaly).

Is there a software that can slow down my fan because it's impossible to sleep with this noise?

BTW this fan lowered my CPY from 72 celcius (with TT Volcano II) to 40 celcius (TT Dragon Orb 3)

    Thanks

Probably goes without saying, but the fan is plugged into the correct socket, right?

I would rather have my fans sound like a hoover than have a hot system. Just remember, the cooler the system is, hte longer it will last

I fitted an orb to a frends machine, it gave no end of trouble. The thing was drawing too much power from the motherboard, in the end I had to mod the plug so it could take it's power strait from the PSU
