I work at a large shop. We have a situation wit h several K7M motherboards. They WILL not turn on unless you press the reset button. The power button will not work. We have swapped out every component.. what is going on?

if its happening on more than one i would think the boards are fine.
have you checked to see if the reset and power-on connectors are attached to the motherboard correctly?
also some bios have options for the power on button, you may need to hold it in for 3 seconds to turn it on and off.

Make sure your power supplies in these cases are 2.01 compliant with a bare minimum 250 watts, 300 watts recommended for any athalon.
certain power supplies won't power up the athalons properly or shutdown properly. But I think Wuter's response makes the most sense.

i had a problem with my 650 booting up. make sure that you have the current bios, the best one out now is 1209 or something like that. this might fix your problem.

This happens at my shop 2, with certain power supplies there is not enuff juice to start up until u hit reset, try another power box to see if it still does, if it does, put 300 watt power supplies into the cases...then try it...

Athlon Motherboards will only work with certain 300/330 watt power supplies. You will have to try by trial and error + only certain memmory modules work with the Athlon + Bios problems esp in Gigabyte boards.
Reports about the New 133mhz capable chips say "All problems ironed out and total stability with the Athlon at all norm/overclock speeds. OK?

PS
I forgot to mention that many, many HARD DRIVES wont work properly with the Athlon due to timing problems!
Without mentioning names the easiest thing to say is:
I only recommend the latest IBM HARD DRIVES!!!!!!

I had exactly the same problem with the Asus K7M. It´s defenetly the powersupply that´s causing the problem.
My advise is the same as what I did:
Don´t waste your time on an Asus K7.
Bring them all back, and exchange them for MSI k7-pro´s (6195). They work with all power supplies, and work fine in every configuration.

I believe Wuter has the answer. In my recent problems with the K7M and the AMD750 I switched memory, bios, video, and the problem was the CPU. I don't mean that is your problem but a little too much emphasis is placed on problems that will yield a definite symptom. THe AMD may be sensitive but the K7M is solid as a rock. However the connections for the ATX power supply and the options included lend themselves to misconnection. A careful look at these connections is needed. Don't be mislead by experience with the Baby AT 'cause they need careful scrutiny to be sure they are correct. Good luck.
