[RESOLVED] cd r freezes pc

All of a sudden, my computer freezes up when my cd writer is installed. PC runs fine without it, but as soon as I add it, my PC freezes up. I even tried to use the writer instead of my cd rom, but still hangs system.Please help!! I have tried everything I have read on this problem to no avail. Will I have to reformat?

If the problem occurs when you install its software, remove it and see what's happening.
If not, check once again its jumper settings. Verify which unit should be set as Master and which one as Slave.
