    Post ftp server

I am running wi2k advance3d server behind a linksys cable/dsl router, I set the router to forward the IP of the server 192.168.1.103 on port 42, I set up the ftp server for port 42 and to allow anonymous log in, and yet I still can not get it to work. I have set the permissions on the directory to read, every time I try to browse the ftp site I get the error Make sure the file name is valid or have permission to access folder...
Am I overlooking something in the setup of the ftp server?

What kind of router do you have? Do you have TCP and UDP forwarded, or just TCP, or just UDP? All you should need is TCP. Are you using NAT? Can you get to the FTP server from the internal network (another computer on the same side of the router)?

I am using both UDP and TCP. The router is a Linksys cable/dsl router. No can not get to the server from a machine on same side of router.

If you are using the built into 2K IIS server, check to see if you have annonymous connections allowed, and that it is granting anon admin right. I have always just created a dummy account (i.e., ftpuser) and specified it under the 'Security Accounts' tab on the FTP server properties menu. Then have everyone use it to log in with.

Personally I hate the IIS ftp setup. I use G6 FTP server which I find much more usful and can do more than IIS without taking up a lot system resources.

I'm having almost an identical problem, though my internal users can access the server ok, anyone trying to access from outside is denied access. I know its not a router problem because they can connect to the server, just not list the directories. Same thing using G6, internally its fine, but externally nothing. I've checked and rechecked everything. even flashed the router but still nothing. Any ideas?

    Weazel -
That's a permissions problem. If you can't see anything on a quick walkthrough, start a new thread and someone here will help you out.
