Post WinME, resets itself after loading desktop. Please help.

I've got a micron computer here running windows ME. It loads up windows, but just after it gets done loading the desktop/tasbar, it resets itself. I tried a full format and recover, and it still does it.

I should also mention that it does this in safe mode as well.

Any ideas? It's not a random thing, it happens at the exact same time everytime.

Thanks.

Sounds very much like a hardware issue, have you recently installed anything i.e memmory?
You could try removing all but the required hardware to see if it still happens.
It could also possibly be related to the power supply loading or a faulty power supply issue.
Any system specifications you can supply may help, has it only happened recently or is it a new rebuild ?

archer is right.
spontaneous reboots are almost always hardware related. the most likely culprits are CPU overheating, Power Supply, and Faulty Memory. those are generic across the board.

Be Ready to swap parts. I know I continually say this, but try to always get name brand high quality RAM (mushkin, crucial etc) and high quality Power supply (enermax antec etc.) along with the CPU and motherboard, these are the backbone of your system. If your base is made of high quality components, then your troubleshooting is minimized considerably.

There may be other suspects specific to your motherboard chipset. (Aureal Sound cards and Via for example.) I'd try a search on http://groups.google.com for compatiblity issues with your motherboard just to explore that avenue.

Good Luck
