Badtrans virus damage ?
Help. I had the badtrans virus on my computer (I'm stupid I know), My system has been cleaned by McAfee, however I still have damage to my PC.
Files are either corrupt or deleted. The following files are corrupted.
user.exe
setupx.dll
both in c:\windows\systems
Can someone point me in the right direction to solve these problems... and please try and keep the intructions simple.
Thanks for helping this stupid person in correcting his stupid errors.
Regards
Ian

Those two files are core components of Windows.
IF YOU CAN BOOT WINDOWS (AND IT'S 98)
Run SFC.EXE
IF YOU CAN'T BOOT WINDOWS
I'm guessing that you can't boot Windows without them. Here's what you need to do. Get a DOS boot disk with CD-ROM support (the Windows setup floppy should work, you'll just have to CTRL-BREAK out of the batch file start) Next, get your Windows install CD and put it in. From the DOS c:\> prompt type
extract /a d:\win98\win98_22.cab c:\user.exe
You'll probably have to modify the command line based on what version of Windows you're using. Look for the lowest numbered CAB and this command will process all of the CAB files looking for USER.EXE, and extract it to C:\. Then you can copy it to c:\windows\system. Repeat process for setupx.dll.
Or copy these files from another working machine with an identical version of Windows.
