Cable Modem Conectivity
Using a cable modem to provide access to the internet for a existing LAN. The LAN is only between two systems using a cross-over cable. How do I configure the client to access the cable modem which is connected to the host?
Also does anyone know a fast public proxy server. UK based would be great. Currently using webcashe.bt.net - Its very slow.

If your running Windows then Internet connection sharing is easy and will work. Its in the control panel under add/remove programs. Then click on teh windows setup tab, Its under either communicatio (Me) or Internet tools (98). I am not sure about 2k. Hope this helps

www.deerfield.com
they offer wingate or sygate cant remember which but both will do what you want them to
if you are lookig for east of setup then i would suggest going with a router such as the Linksys 4 port cable dsl router part # befsr41 these are about as plug and play as you can get.
or the internet connection though sometimes a pain would work well for you... it has the networking wizard which suspsedly guides you through the setup.

Cheers for the help guys. Ive never done this before! But its so simple! However, we have now set up the firewall (NIS ver 3) on the host system and are unable to access highports. All our IP's are dynamic. The permitted range is 192.0.0.0 to 192.255.255.255 for local comms. The system just ignores any port usage past 1024. My attempts to work around have failed. Help once more needed!
