Stupid Bosses
Here is one for everyone. My boss knew I was looking for another job. In the meantime they hire a new IT person to replace me. Now my wife is the office manager there. They don't tell her they hired him. I get sent out on a bogus call. They keep my company laptop because the bosses was broke. I go I come back 2 hours later. I get called into the office and fired for having my bosses personal hard drive coppied to my hard drive. I am leaving anyway so figure the heck with it. So I just say whatever and leave. The next day the new guy shows up. My wife is like ok this was a major setup. I get a letter from thier attorneys the next day saying I misappropriated confidential information and trade secrets, and breached my employment contract. I find this funny since I never had an employment contract. They also say the will settle if I agree not to sue and keep the settlement confidential. Of course this is worded strongly, and I only have 10 days to respond. So of course knowing that if I can get the computer through the courts and see just when it was written to the hard drive I get a lawyer to respond back. Still haven't heard back from them been about three weeks now. They decide to shut down the entire company's e-mail system in case I send a virus. Needless to say my wife quit a week later. The moral of the story is they tried to set me up without knowing the facts or something any tech knows, that you can easily find out when something was written to a hard drive. Oh somehow all of the back up tapes for the week before this happened somehow got thrown away. I almost hope they try to push the issue since I sent them a letter saying basically they must appologize and not tarnish me in any way. I'll keep you all posted on how it proceeds. The funny thing is before I left they let me on the computer to pull off some personal files mostly just letters. If I really wanted to I could have just formatted or shred the disk and made them spend a lot of money to try and recover it.

wow I would have sent them a letter saying you were going to sue them for wrongful termination and that they set you up. Make them pay you for the time you missed work and give you your job back and when they do then quit.

Men, your boss is something else!!! Wow, what the heck- I am in some what in the same situation as yours, but the difference is that I am not the Tech person for the company. I am the Asst. Front Office Manager, but they want me to fix every thing every chance they get, and every time the system crashes. So one day I toled them OFF. I applied for the MIS position twice with the company, but I was rejected, and I was indirectly toled "Who cares about your certifications". That was long ago, before I toled them OFF. I feel you, I really do. Sue them, I think you should. Make them suffer, and make them send you the begging letters, but DO NOT take your job back.

I already thought about the wrongful termination but since there was no employment contract which they said in the letter there is??? My lawler says I can't. I am looking at setting them up by having someone call them for a verification of employment to see what they say. I am waiting to see how they are going to handle the proposal for settlement I sent them back first though. It should be interesting. Of course according to my lawyer I have a solid case, and if they give me a bad ref. after settleing I have them for slander which I will push to the fullest extent. The best part is they wanted an ans. quick and now are sitting on it since I got a lawyer.

Good for you . Yep, any employer gets afraid when they hear the name LAWYER from their employees or x-employees. Don't let them walk all over you. Good idea about having someone that you trust to call. I have done that before, and not only I won the BATTLE but also the WAR.
