SB Live! and XP

Ok... i'm running a an athlon slot a 700 on a microstar board, 416mb of pc133 SDRAM... asus6600 geforce256 video, a 60gb & 13gb maxtor hdds, a memorex cd-rw and a liteon 52x cdrom, oh, an a SB Live!value...
here's the problem... i installed XP, no problems everything works good, i download the latest SB Live! XP drivers from the microsoft site, still works fine... but i wanted the audioHQ, so i downloaded the latest SB Live! XP drivers from creative, ever since then the card will not work, it'll install, but it will not function, i get the error "A device ID has been used that is out of range for you system" whenever i TRY to play something in winamp. i have no idea what to do, i've tried uninstalled and reinstalling the drivers from the cd, from microsoft, and from creative, changed the slot the card is in... any suggestions what i should try would be much appreciated. thanks.

Did you try system restore? A driver update would have automatically created a new restore point.

Also, did you make sure the driver download for your SB Live! was the correct one? Depending on the chipset, not all SB Live! cards have drivers available from Creative yet. For instance I have a SB Live! Platinum and the drivers aren't due until later this month.

I did indeed try the system restore... still didn't work...
i do know the drivers are the correct ones. i had XP running before, just on a different HDD, i got a new 60gig and just decided to redo the whole system... just this time i'm having this problem...
Also... i noticed before, during the creative installation of the XP drivers (it only did this a few of the times i was trying to install it), the computer would reboot halfway into the driver install... however, right before it restarted, i got a blue screen, stating i was having an interrupt request storm... not sure how to get around that...

I have experienced driver problems with my SB live xgamer under XP
I reinstalled XP home edition using the NTFS file system,
I installed the latest drivers from creative for my SB live xgamer after installing the update from MS's website
When I go to open the Audio HQ applet I get an dialouge box telling my that Audion HQ has experienced a problem and if I want, to send in a problem report
I never got this using the FAT 32 system, I need Audio HQ to get my rear speakers to work since the set up that MS installs does not work
I found a work around by going to the c:\programs\creative folder and running the exe directly
I sure hope creative learns how to write drivers , I find their software a litt flaky at times <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I would also like to see them quit making different versions of the same card (ie.... ensoniq) ive seen many of these cards that the downloaded driver from creative would not work on and required the original cd that came with them, urrgggg, creative are you listening.

I have tried those latest drivers and Audio HQ will not allow me to open the speaker setting applet , I have to go directly to the exe file to set up my speakers, I sure hope creative hires better software writers

Check this out, before XP came out, I went to the MS Update to get Updates for Win2000, MS had a update for my ATI Radeon card, after the install the comp restarted, and blam! I started crashing, I uninstalled the MS version of my Radeon drivers and re-installed the previous drivers, all fixed. The moral is don't use MS versions of some one elses drivers. As for the Audio HQ and Speakers problem I have Altec lansing 4 speaker system. all the speakers work when I first installed the WIndows 2000 drivers that came with my SBLive Value in Win XP Pro, then I let it restart and install the Update from creative (the 9mb file not the 1.8mb) and now it works fine. Creative sould have their drivers for XP by the end of the month, if they don't already have them, and I'd recommend you download and install them. Might fix your problem.

Is there a way of finding out which model of SBLive Value (i.e. CT4620, CT4670, CT4760) I have without having to open the case up and take the sound card out?

Like I said I used the latest driver from creative for my SB Live xgamer , The only way I can get my Cmabridge sound works rear speakers to work is by directly accessing the exe file in the creative folder
I only experienced this after converting my drive to the NTFS file system and a clean install of XP home edition
Everything elso works good , Now if I could get XP to network

The MS Radeon drivers on Windows Update are the same ones that are available to download from ATI themselves. Using them fine myself and the SB Live drivers from Creative.

Just an update, I had the SB Live Value card in my xp machine, and just recently upgraded to the SB Live 5.1 downloaded the newest drivers off of creatives site and installed them, the card works just fine with audioHQ. I to have Cambridge soundworks surround speakers no problems at all, so im not sure where your problem is at, just wanted to let you know it can work with XP installed.

Did anyone ever find a resolution to the SBLive 5.1 or whatever SBLive and WinXP? I am having a problem that is similar to all the ones I am hearing in this forum. My updated SBLive Drivers are fine and say in the device manager that they are working properly but when I venture to control panel>sounds and multimedia under the "Audio" tab, there is only my wave device for my modem that can be chosen for preferred device. I have tried everything, that I can think of that is. It sounds like there is a lot of conflict with these two variables. I think Creative and M$ needs to get on the ball and work together and remedy the problem. Any help or suggestions by anyone are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Willy Paycheck

dunno if this will help you guys at all but if you go in the creative directory and find a file named CTSURMIX, right click on it, and do windows 2000 compatability, it should take care of the speaker selection problem.
