Quick question.

Not sure where to ask this really, but this seemed to be the logical choice. I was just wondering if there is a way to change to COm port my modem is using from Win 98. I'm having difficulties on the on COM 4 so I want to try another, but I'm unsure of how to go about it. Thanks for help.

Try disabling all unnecessary com ports in the MB BIOS, then move your modem to a different slot on the MB to force Windows to redetect it as a new device...this way it should come up as COM1 or COM2...some models will only go COM3 or COM4--you might be stuck. (if you get stuck send me an email--I'm in your area...maybe a phone call can get it done)

I'll try that, and let you know if it works. I know that it sn't forced to use com 4 though, if I plug it back into my this computer it will be com 2. So hopefully that will work. Thanks.

Sometimes what you need to do is take the card out, reboot, remove all the drivers, shut down and put the card in (in a different slot!), and then reboot & reconfig like normal.

bleh, nothing I do will make it work, but I did have someone tell me it might be my mouse. I have an Intellimouse Optical USB, but I don't have USB on the other computer so I'm using the USB to PS/2 adapter. Could this have anything to do with it? Could I try disabling my serial and paralell ports? I'm not using them, and although Winblows says there are no conflicts you never know.

Com ports ARE serial ports, that's what I suggested. You need to at least disable serial B (com2) or whatever your board calls it. That way Com2 will be available for the modem.
