How to get mouse to work in DOS mode
If I need my mouse to work in DOS by either "restarting in MS-DOS mode" or choosing "command prompt only" from windows startup menu, what files do I need to edit (config.sys, autoexec.bat) and what mouse driver do I use?
I know this is a pretty stupid question, but for some reason I couldn't get this to work, so I figured I was doing something wrong. Thanks in advanced for any help.

It's been a while . . . .but
autoexec.bat would load mouse drivers at startup which is probably not what you ideally want to do, as it would cause the mouse to run in real dos mode when inside of windows. I remember long ago, a file in the windows folder called dosstart.bat which loads when you choose to shutdown in dos mode.
this is where you would place the reference to the driver. something like
c:\windows\command\mouse.com as an example
as far as finding the driver, you can search your system for mouse.com you may or may not find it. If you do just enter the path to it in dosstart.bat as exampled above.
if you don't find it then here it is. www.bentcom.net/~sknox/MOUSE.COM
just place it somewhere and reference that path in dosstart.bat as shown above.

forgot to mention that if you don't have dosstart.bat in c:\windows you can just create it.

I seem to remember when I was messing about with DOS and 3.11 on an old machine, using a floppy with DOS drivers for the mouse. I have just located the disc and if it helps at all I could zip and email the files to you - they are 243kb unzipped. Then you could unzip them to a floppy. BTW all my outgoing email and attachments are scanned by Norton AntiVirus 2002.
Just zipped the files and they are 132KB.
