video capture card?
i'm interested in getting into some light video capture on my pc and i would really like a tv tuner as well. so heres my question, would i be better off getting a tv tuner/capture card or getting a video card with tv tuner/capture built in? newegg has the Leadtek Winfast tv2000 capture card for about $70 and it has tv and capture, or i can get a radeon 7500 with tv and capture for $130. what would perform better? this setup would go into a 2nd machine and if i got the video card it would replace a GF 2 gts 64 mb card. i have no experience in video capture or using a tv tuner. thanks guys

First, make sure you cable is simple analog. If it's either digital or a mix of digital and analog you won't be able to tune the digital channels (as far as I know, it wouldn't work with my all in wonder).
Second, if you just want capture and not tv get an Asus Ultra Delux Ti4600. They rock! ..and the price is going to drop like a stone in the next month.

hey...sweet... here's what i got
ati 7500 aiw with remote wonder.....
here's what i do...record my tv shows when me and the misses are haveing some quailty time....hehe..
actually i got a kid who loves a pbs program called zabommafoo..i record it every day, and then divx it at night...i use the mpeg-2 format.
i would highly recomend it...
if you have a digital cable connection then you still need to get the set top cable box so that it can input analog video.
if you got an HDTV or am thinking about doing so in the future then splurge and get the 8500 aiw...
my 2 cu.
i love peta...and sars...
and bin laden....and n. korea....and china...and p2p...spyware...

I just got the best on that Asus makes from newegg, 10bit and everything for ~$50.
Also has a dongle for Svideo and RCA capture and a remote control

Nope no new uk imports of these (ATI have the market here 'stitched up' - must be an authorised seller to ship 'em here) .. you might find one 'hanging about' on e-bay or whatever - here you are looking for either a 8500 or 9200 AIW but they are getting tricky to find too .. its all a conspiracy I tell ya !
But maybe not ... if you get a card with VIVO (video in & video out) you can capture with them too, you just don't get an anolgue composite converter (so you can only see what something else like your VCR 'tunes' the signal to) & you have to figure out the leads to get from your source to what's usually on a VIVO card which is s-video ..
But on this digital feed stuff, its not me that's confus-ed (for once !) but seemingly everyone else ... 99/100 Tvs are analogue & whether your incoming signal (from cable or satelite) is 'digital' the output from the set-top box will be analogue & you can capture that with 'any old Tv card' ...
You can get digital TV cards too, which here you might use to get & unscramble free digital terrestial services like freeview (you could also directly tap your digital feed from cable or whatever & one of these should 'do it' for 'free' channels not needing decoding & an 'authorising card')
Clarify what 'light use' is & this might get easier to figure out .. if he just wants to transpose his vhs tapes to hard-drive then vivo will/should be enough - if he wants to use it like a tv then he wants an all in wonder or a TV card to enable him to 'tune in' on part of the analogue signal & seperate monitor driver .. if he has digital feed somewhere then he might like a digital tv card & seperate for his monitor..
