    I can't "PING"

    I've got a small network setup basically so I can share my aDSL connection. I've got the DSL modem/bridge that's used for getting connected to the internet. I've got a router and an 8-port switch. I've got 5 computers connecting to the internet fine but they can't ping each other. The thing that bugs me is that they are all set up the exact same way and I can't ping other systems that are plugged into the switch. I have no problem connecting to the internet and I have no problem sending or receiving files through them file sharing networks - like MX. I have no problem pinging the default gateway which is the router, so why can't I ping other computers on my network?

    Anybody? Help! Any help as always would be most appreciated.
    Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me;
    Other times I can barely see.
    Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it’s been.

    Could be that your router is setup to drop all ping requests. Try running a traceroute (tracert.exe) from one computer to another.

    Might also be your software firewall is set to reject ping requests.
