Question Windows 98 se "TEMP" files.

The question I have is this, Can all files be safely deleted in Windows Temp, without messing anything up, and just leaving the Temp folder?

    Thanks, Jerryn9ehp

Usually yes, the temp folder is just for those things that you download and then install or stuff like that.

Now occasionally you get a program that downloaded and installed from there and needs to have the file still there. To make sure you dont become a victim of the lazy programmer, you should delete the files but do not empty the recycle bin, that way if you need to put something back you can do. Empty the bin when you are happy everything is ok after a couple reboots and a few days of usage.

Sometimes you will need to reinstall a program you have downloaded. If you need to do this and you haven't backed it up to another location you can usually find it in the Windows/temp file.

The problem with storing things in the Windows/temp file is that it eventually becomes like a very large junk-drawer in your garage; you have it clean it up every once in awhile - otherwise you'll never be able to find anything.

If you haven't made backups of the files you've downloaded then go through the file and see if there is anything useful. If so make a backup copy of it and store it on a CDROM or in My Documents or somewhere else. Then erase.

I had a friend of mine 'found' and extra GB of hard drive space by doing this.

    Good Luck,
