    Ink Refils...Ugh! Stupid Me!

Well, I have ALWAYS suggested that people buy the correct replacement cartridges for their printers rather than using the ink refill kits but las month I failed to follow my own advice in order to save a few bucks. I have an HP 940C and I refilled both the color and black cartridges. My problem came with the black cartridge. You have to pull out a rubber seal from the bottom of the cartridge, fill the cartridge, and then plug the hole with plugs provided with the refill kit. I purchased mine from www.myinks.com. Anyway, when my black ink began to run out, I pulled the cartridge to refill it only to find oput that the replacement plug had fallen out. Now, in the right-hand side of my printer there is a pile of black goo. My printer has been printing fine EXCEPT for envelopes and it will eat about every other one.

What can I use to clean this mess out?

Does anyone here advocate the use of refill kits and if so, which one{s} are the best?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

If you can get at it Isopropyl alcohol does okay with printer ink.

And ah No I don't recommend kits, especially with HP. I've seen numerous times where it just isn't worth it for them. Probably has something to do with HP including the head with each ink but hey I don't know....

    Good luck

You can usually just hose out the inside of the cartridge holder on a HP Printer.

    Works a treat.

Leave it 24 hrs to dry out of course

    Done it many times.
Cleans the ink out of all of it.

Most people using replacement inks only get away with it once or twice.
    Cartrige replacement is then required.

I've been using cartridge refill system for about 4 years now. Works pretty good too if you buy the right cartridge. My lastest one, Epson works pretty good, I also hear that Lexmark works well too. My previous one Cannon worked okay but the cartridges didn't last long because they weren't made that well - or so I was advised by an 'expert' in the field.

I would go online to ask different refill kit companies what they think of different printers before I buy. Give them a price range and ask them what to buy and what to stay away from.

Also, if you buy a pre-refilled cartridge online I would make SURE you have some kind of money back guarantee. I was stung once for $54.00 for a cartridge that worked for about a week.

Refill kits work okay for me, but my intelligence impaired brother in law tried it and got ink all over the place, I guess he didn't realize it isn't able to be cleaned with a wet rag....

That's a good point Guts, you don't want to do this over a formica counter or it will stain.

I would do it only over a stainless steel or marble sink, and then only with plenty of rags around for messups.

I have had good luck cleaning ink with bleach, but you don't want that near some materials.... I usually go to www.allyoucanink.com to buy remanufactured carts...
