    Diamond Multimedia

Having a problem with my first working with S.C.S.I. I have a friends PC here that is totally trashed with spyware, freeware, basic internet trash programs that I want to do a clean fresh install of WIN2K. He has a plextor 12x4x32 internal S.C.S.I. CDRW. On the install of WIN2K it is going to ask me for the adapter's driver, right? I am having trouble locating what I am sure is the right driver. the S.C.S.I. controller is a PCI card that says Diamond Multimedia, FIREPORT ULTRA WIDE 40. My other problem/question for you is, isn't there 'spose to be a physical termination somewhere with S.C.S.I.? Or is this termination like a master/slave jumper with IDE drives?

I've never come across that particular card but the Win 2k default drivers have always worked for me for a number of cards with less well known names. The card is obviously fairly recent (Ultra Wide) so probably has a common chipset.Win 2k & XP seem to have all the modern ones covered. It's worth a try!

Ultra-wide SCSI 3 does not need a terminator on the SCSI cable. The boards auto detect and adjust themselves accordingly. The only time I ever needed one was when an old SCSI 1 tape drive was added to the chain (customer's request) The adapters alone took ages to get and probably cost more than a newer drive!!

The problems this caused would stagger you!!!
Now where did I leave my Lump Hammer?

Probably moot by now, but was it possible to add a cheap, old SCSI card and just have the tape on it?

    ANYWAY.....about the actual topic here
If win2k doesn't have that driver, you should be able to find it at the following URL, near the bottom of the page

EDIT: weird, the text didn't show up fully, but it links to the right place.

    SOLVED

OK, got the driver...thanks. Got this done but had some difficulties. After loading win2k I could not access MY COMPUTER! It would just lock up and generate explorer errors. I removed the SCSI card and it worked fine. Was planning to send it back sayin' get an IDE CD writer cause after messin' around I could have the SCSI card in but the PLEXTOR writer was locking it up. Then I gave it one last try with the Writer in and what do ya know-it works fine.

Can any one tell me what happened here?
