    gf4 ti4200 go in a 8200?

Just noticed that the new dell inspiron 8500 has been released. I've currently got an inspiron 8200 with a gf4 mx 440.

I presumed that since both the 8200 and 8500 ship with mobility radeon 9000's (min)that the motherboards/vpu's are using the same architechture??

Will the gf4 ti4200 go fit in my laptop.. I know the radeon 9000 go will but whould like that little extra :....

until the gf fx go that is ...

Currently there is no way to upgrade the video card in a laptop. However, ATI (and I presume nVidia) is working on creating a replaceable video card "module" system for future laptops. If you have a nVidia graphics card in your laptop it is currently built on to the system board. The same goes with the current ATI Radeon mobility cards (part of the system board).

sorry but for the last 3 years (maybe 2) there have been laptops with the very facility that you are speaking of, The dell inspiron 8100, 8200 and now the 8500 can be upgraded with new graphics cards. I have only just upgraded my friends 8200 from a gf2 to a gf4 and have replaced the gf4 in my own. what i need to now is if the new ti4200 fitted in the new 8500 will fit in my 8200. Since the 8500 and 8200 both also ship with radeon 9000's i was hoping that the 8500's radeon card whould be exactly the same as the one in the 8200.. therefore the ti4200 should work fine with my pc..

Yup Hippie, you can upgrade video cards on the 8000 series Dell's. I had a 8100 for awhile and I could drop in the faster cards. As for the answer for your question Dr_Jones. I dunno.

Twas okay. I spent too much money on it. I went with the UXGA screen and should have gotten a SXGA or XGA screen because I wanted to play games on it... other than that, It was pretty cool. I wish it was built a bit better though. Too much cheapie plastic on it.

i agree none of the current laptop graphics solutions :radeon 9000, geforce 4 mx440/460 (ti4200.. very nearly though) can render fully detailed 3d scenes at the native resoloution of dells uxga and the new wsxga and wuxga tft screens(1600 * 1200, 1680 * 1050,1920 * 1200) . lovely screens though and since the graphics card can be upgraded to the new gf4 ti4200 or, and i havent confirmed this yet the radeon 9200/9600 range and the geforce 5200 and 5600(fx) it was well worth having the higher resolution screen.

Any ideas if the new inspiron 8500 motherboard supports agp 8X, 3.0 ?? or is it the same as is used in the 8200??
I do know that it supports ddr2100, 266.. the same as the 8200..
