Should I add 2nd Floppy Drive?
Hey Gang,
I have an old floppy drive lying around and I am thinking of adding it to my system.
However I have to ask the question is there any real advantage to having two floppies? What are the reasons people have two floppy drives? Are there any difficulties to installing two floppy drives? Could I screw up my present installation?
Thanks,
Orangeman

Nobody has two floppy drives. Just hold on to it as a spare.

Can't think of a reason to have two FDs these days.
Originally, of course, when most systems had no hard drive, two floppys meant you didn't have to swap disks (so much) if an application was too big to run from one disk. Or you could run a program from B: and leave the boot disk in A: for when the transient portion of COMMAND.COM had to be re-loaded. Also it meant less disk-swapping when using DISKCOPY.
None of these justify two drives now.

I had two floppy drives on my Tandy 1000SX back in the 80's.
On my current PC, I don't have any floppy drives. Don't need em.

I can't see the need for one floppy if your pc is new enough to boot from cd.. . . . . . let alone two

If I dont fit a Floppy in a PC the Customer always asks where it is.
A floppy is an essential piece of kit. Without it users would not be able to use a 31/2 inch floppy for long term storage till they eventually lose their files.
The hard drive of course is only for the operating system and apps and is not required to store things like Excel spreadsheets.

Just about every file I deal with wouldn't fit on a floppy, anyway. That's what CD Burners are for. With the exception of BIOS flashing, there's no nead for a floppy. Sure they're cheap so go ahead and put them in if your customers demand them, but they are finally on the out-and-out.
