SB-Live X Gamer Compatibility
I have an Asus CUV4X-E motherboard (VIA chipset) and intend to uprgrade my Diamond Monster Sound MX 300 to a Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer. Does anybody know of any problems with the SB-Live and my motherboard?

Not specifically, but I STRONGLY recommend that you download the latest version of Live!Ware and have it on your desktop ready to install BEFORE installing the SBLive. The software that ships with those things is terrible.

I have asus a7v and x-gamer using original drivers for soundcard and newest via 4in1 (non-beta) No problems whatsoever. I read a lot about people saying having sb-live probs and this is second via/amd system with same card with good results.

Don't do it!!! There is a known issue with SB Live products and motherboards with the Via KT133 chipset (686B Southbridge chip). Message boards are reporting only some success with current fixes/patches available. Via has just recently acknowleged the bug and are working on a fix.

Thats the solution to 99% of SB Live! problems with VIA based boards.

So, um...what is the best way to install the drivers for this thing? Should I tweak the settings in the bios or in windows before I install?

BIOS settings first, then drivers

Is this fix supposed to stop the static noise in the SB live (IRQ 5 set to legacy)
I tried a lot of things : UDMA off, SB 16 emulation off, PCI latency off , switch to another PCI slot , latest bios/via drivers .
the freakin static/crackling is still present . The card is usable (no lockup or heavy poping) but i want my sound ultra clean.
Bye and thanx .

Sorry to say that popping and static noises aren't caused by driver, BIOS or IRQ settings. Sounds like you have a sound card on it's way out. I've come across a lot of these where the SB Live sound card starts to crackle while playing a sound. The only cure is to send it back to Creative, contact Creative for an RMA if the card is still under warranty. Not saying that you've done this, but just unplugging the speakers from the front channel to plug the speakers into the rear channel while the system is powered on can screw these cards up. I know because I have done this.

My card is a SB live not a new SB 5.1 .
I didn't do what you explained .
And finally the static/poping problems are very common for the SB live/Via combo .

You're mainboard uses the 686A southbridge which supposedly does not have a problem with the SB Live! I'm personally using the A7V-133 which has the 686B, but also has a Promise Ultra 100 controller on it. I use that controller for my hard drives and have no issues with my Live! card.

My MB also has the ATA100 controller! The A7V Pro does not.
