Cable Modem Networkin
Is it possible to have a cable modem running off the uplink port on a hub, in order to share an internet connection? For now I have it set up with 1 main pc with 2 nic's, 1 going to the cable modem and the 2nd to the lan. ICC is enabled. The only problem with this is that the 1 pc has to be on for the other pcs to share!!. I current have a 3Com OfficeConnect Ethernet Hub 8 with a single uplink port and was wondering if the uplink port could be used for sharing??? any ideas
Thanks....

Can't do it unless your ISP gives you two IP addresses.
Otherwise you need a router, or a machine doing ICS.
I believe that your uplink port is used to stack on another hub/switch.

since you already have a hub/switch why not build a smoothwall box that will act as your router / firewall / intrusion detection etc.
