    Raid Settings

recently bought a dvd burner and need to free up an ide channel so i've decided to put my 2 hard drives on the onboard raid array, i just going to have them striped (1 p or 2 im not sure) and was wondering is there were any special settings or paramaters i should put in when creating the array

    Asus P4C800 Deluxe
2x 40 GB Maxtor IDE Hard Drives

    any suggestions/ideas?

If a stripe array is going to be your only storage, you better use that DVD burner for backing up. There's a good chance you'll need it. There's nothing too special about the setup. A word about cluster size, though: larger clusters give better performance, but more drive usage. The reason is that each file will use a minimum of one cluster. So if you have a 4KB file, but your clusters are 64K, that 4KB file will be eating 64KB of disk space.

thanks for the heads up, although backup probably wont be necessary, nothing mission critical on this machine, so no worries about data loss
