    need drivers for Compaq Presario 5000

    Hi,

    I am in desperate need of drivers for a Compaq Presario 5000 system for Win98SE. I don't know if it is the 'a' model or what (I don't know the way to tell).


    I need drivers for Audio and modem. I have tried every audio download from Compaq but none of them worked. This mobo is the "uwave" model.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    The letters denote country releases for the same model. Look on the label on the back.

    If you are in the US then this is the page you want

    Also go to safe mode and clean out and drivers already installed for sound, and any unknown duplicated devices. If you find duplicates, delete both as you do not know which one windows is actually using.

    Reboot to normal mode, get to desktop, run the setup.

    edit: ooooh its a via specs here have you been to www.viaarena.com and installed the via hyperion 4 in 1 drivers?

    No spec on the modem - probably a conexant or pctel there is a utility there for identifying which one.

    wow, I feel stupid. The drivers I was trying to install were for 98SE and up. I had 98FE, and didn't realize it.
