    What are you using?

What AV are you using today?

I'm due for an upgrade and I've decided against McAffe and Norton and want to try something different. I'm using NAV 2003 and when I install it it gets hosed due to the verisign thing even if I patch the root certificate and I've heard not so good things about 2004. I've had a lot of bugs get missed by AVG free and I've had it really screw things up before as well. Tried F-secure and XP would not boot after (saw earlier post from meatswad denoting issues between sygate and f-secure so I'm guessing that as this machine uses sygate firewall).

So now that I've rulled out most of the major players in the AV market, who's left? Does anyone make an AV scanner that doesn't bog down the system, doesn't cause more errors than it fixes and works well?

I haven't tried it yet, but I want to see how F-prot is. I've heard a lot of good things.

i'm running e-trust on my server box, it seems to have the same overheard NAV did on that system, however it is a Domain Controller and has all functionality to intergrate with AD. I'm thinking of trying the free 1 year version for personal PC and see how it goes. The E-trust i'm running now has never giving me any errors and is very inconspicous (deleted infected files without even prompting you) It even went so far as locking me out of my account when i was testing it.. (too many virused files in 1 minute, locked out the account).

I'm gonna be redoing my laptop sometime this week, I'll let you know what i think of the personal edition.

I swear by Trend Micro PCCillin 2002. I still use that version because it has small overhead, and it just WORKS! Some of my friends like PANDA.

    Both, imho, are excellent.

McAfee despite what most people think of it. I go by experience and it's been good for me over last 4 years.

AV is cool but does not clean many viruses.

Another vote here for e-trust ezarmor suite. You get an anti virus prog and a firewall all in one with free updates for 12 months. Uses very little resources.

I have installed it on at least 6 customers and friends machines and so far haven't had any problems with it.

The firewall looks a lot like Zone alarms and the anti virus is like VET.

Grabbed the eval version of e-trust and it's the pay version of CA's virus scanner - remember they had one of the 1st free ones? It's cheap too so I might just be using this one. I had some problems with it the same as AV but again, that was the free version. So far this is working without a hitch, super easy to use and no abnormal overhead from what I can see.

I'm going to get the eval versions from panda, pccillin and AV (the pay one) and see how they work on this system and post my personal results in the spring when all the eval copies run out and I have to choose one.
