CPU type question
We received a new Panasonic CF-48 (I wish they'd choose a new model number, there's like a million different types of CF-48s out there) and a 256mb memory upgrade.
PC works fine, install memory, no bootie uppie. Get RAM swapped by supplier, no bootie uppie, try in another identical CF-48, same problem. Call Panasonic, "Oh, you're using the wrong RAM, that RAM is for the Pentium 4 version (1.4ghz), you have the Pentium M 1.4ghz and need THIS model RAM instead.
Call supplier back. "Well that's the RAM you ordered. Look at order, sure enough we did, but we also specified Pentium 4, not Pentium M. Of course I'm involved only at the back end, didn't have anything to do with the order at all but now I have to find out what went wrong and get it fixed.
First thing I need to do is figure out what a Pentium M is. I haven't kept up with CPU issues recently, I suspect the Pentium M is a centrino specific Intel CPU but that's only a guess.
I could go search and dig and read and read (I probably will do that later anyway) and figure it out but I'm hoping someone here can give me the short and sweet low down.
Nuts and bolts difference between a 1.4ghz Pentium 4 in a notebook and a 1.4ghz Pentium M in a notebook. Anyone know?
If it's true that wherever you go, there you are: how come so many people look lost?
