Network Connectivity
Ok here is the issue
I am running 2003 Enterprise evaluation edition but having quite a time getting network connectivity to occur
I have a linksys lne100tx v 4.0 which had 03 drivers built in and installed fine. server is all setup but any pc i have on my network are not getting and dhcp addresses, when i setup the client pcs with static ips in the range i cannot ping them and they cannot ping the server either. checked linksys for new drivers and none are available, called linksys directly but there is no eta when they are going to be writing 03 drivers for any of their cards. i can ping the local address on the server fine tho...so i decided to get a new nic incase mine was bad, the new nic would not install due to drivers the only lne100tx supported seems to be v4.0 and all new cards are 5.1... looked around bestbuy and compusa but the only other wired cards out there are d-link and netgear (what the hell ever happened to intel and 3com????!!!!) anyways calling the manufacturer in the store turned up a big thumbs down for 03 server....
so i had an idea with my v4 card... i setup an xp vmware seession on the server so it would be using the same nic and found it got pushed the dhcp address but was not pingable on either side!!!!! i cannot join the domain cannot get anything...... on a suggestion from a friend i checked out the internet connection firewall but was already disabled... the only thing i can think of is that the linksys card just doesnt work in 03 yet until the new drivers... im going to try and get a hold of an old 3com or intel card but in the meantime does any one have a clue to what i might be missing????!!!! i really want to get this working so i can keep up on my training..... thanks in advance....

ok lemme rephrase my question now that ive been troubleshooting this more...
is there a reason a freshly installed 03 server with dns and dhcp would be able to push dns and dhcp to a (vmware) client but cannot ping either way?
on the client side :
i can release and renew all day and get an address in the scope and even get the correct ip for the server when pinged by name (so dns has to be working?) but get no reply...
on the server side:
i can see the client in the dhcp pool but ping returns host unreachable, pinging by name does not even show an ip....
is there something i missed configuring? or should i just chalk it up to an "unsupported nic?"

Yeah ... probably vmware
See if this helps (I didn't think through the whys & wherefores ... but I've had lots of trouble with vmware & virtual NICs before - so every chance ?)

3com and intel are still around, i just purchased a 3com last night to put into the chat server, the existing nic went bad.
if you can get a DHCP lease and release/renew to your hearts content, i would suspect that you have a firewall running. 2k3 comes with a built in one like XP (Depending on your version)

now that i am at work i can do some research online...with vmware, ms, and others
the internet connection firewall is already disabled, is there another one built in somewhere i haven't seen? i even enabled ip filtering for all ports still with the same result... i'll continue my research and post what i find but if anyone has some ideas i could try that would be great cuz my brain is jello right now...

check you subnet masks and make sure everything is on the same network.
