Installing windows98
I have formated my harddrive and trying to reinstall windows98 SE. The program loads and then restarts and just hangs at the windows logo screen or I get the message that a fatal exception has occured at OD 0594:00000218 press Ctrl-Alt-Del and restart the computer. When I restart it just hangs. I have not changed anything in the Bios and I have everything disconnected from the computer but the monitor, mouse and keyboard. I have an Asus A7V8X board, 1700 AMD Athlon XP processor, and 256mb ram.

First, what led you to reinstall Win98 in the first place?
Second, hold down F8 and restart, select choice 3, Safe Mode.
What Happens?

You say you have everything disconnected? Have you removed all add in cards? have you gone into the bios and disabled any onboard sound and lan and tried it that way? also check if your for Resources controlled by OS or ESCD setting and try changing it. Lastly if that doesn't work try setting the bios to bios defaults.

The only add in card is the agp graphics card for the monitor. I will check the other stuff that you mentioned. I get the error message when windows starts to detect my devices. I formated to clear my harddrive and start with clean slate. Plus I needed more room on my drive. I had it partitioned into three partitions that were not the size I wanted.
