    Arrow Help with display adapters

My friend has an old hp. We reformatted his drive and loaded up Windows ME. Unfortunately he does not have his recovery disk from when he got the comp. Now he is only getting 16 colors and a 640x480 resolution. I have an old recovery disk from my old hp but it is a different model. So i tried to update his display adapters with my disk but it did not work. We did this about a year ago and it took me 9 trips to his place to finally fix this problem, but it did work eventually. I believe the name is "ATI mach 64 display driver". I even went to the Ati website but they have nothing. Now I'm lost. Thanks for your time.

its an hp pavillion 6355 an mine's a pavillion 8250. But the strange thing is... last time it took me about 9 tries and then the drivers finally loaded up. I just dont understand why it wont work now. I'm doing the same thing that I do to mine when I reformat but it just wont work. Thanks.

If you are trying to load the drivers from your recovery cd onto his pc, then its not going to work, or its going to cause problems on his machine. The drivers are not interchangable - you need to install the drivers specific to the hardware.

It turns out that hp sold different models of the 6355 in different countries. Where are you located? Alternatively, there should be a model # listed on the back of the machine in this format: D7###A

Assuming you are in the US and that this is an ATI board/chip, download the ATI Adapter Information Tool and post the results.
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.
