    Angry problem: screen goes black

I have had this problem for a few months now and can't finde the answer to it, so i hope someone can help here.

My computer screen goes black randomly, and when it goes black it stays black for a few seconds 2-5 sec. When it goes black the Monitor light stays green and i can move the mouse pointer and see it move with no problem but the screen is black.

I have tryed formating my HD, reinstalling Windows XP and than the Video and Monitor Drivers. And i have notest something the problem always comes after installing NVIDIA Drivers, I have tryed all of them, old drives brand new drivers and same problem.

Some other things i have tryed,: Diferent Monitors and Drives -Same problem. After Formating HD and reinstalling OS I only installed Monitor Drivers not the NVIDIA Video CArd Drives and keept it like this for 4 days and no problem.

My Video card is 2 years old and it worked fine before on same OS Win XP Pro.

Should i Replace the Video Card?

    Here are my SPECs:

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
    Motherboard VIA694
    Processor AMD ~1535 Mhz
    Video: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 64MB
    768 MB RAM

Sounds like that that would fix my problem because you had the same problem with your card.

I will go and get a new Video Card. Thanks.

    Bad News

Bad News, i just got a new Video Card. A NVidia Geforce FX 5200 (256MB RAM, AGP). I uninstalled old drives, installed the ones that came with the new vid. card. I tried looking for it again and the only 2 things i found is some say it could be the power supply or that it uses IRQ11 like my PCI USB 2.0 Card. I got a new Powersuply when this problem started so that can't be it. I tried moveing the USB 2.0 Card into different PCI slots but it still uses IRQ11, i tried takeing out the USB Card and uninstalling the drives for it but the screen still blinks black.

If anyone else have any idea what it could be please reply, the problem is starting to piss me off.

One thing i have notest, when i open Norton Antivurus and do a Systam Scan this problem would show up all the time, about 3-4 times during the hole scan. The screen freezes, few seconds later blinks black and it comes back to normal, and Norton's scan is not affected, say the problem happens when norton has scaned 3000 files than screen freezes goes black and comes to normal norton will say it scaned 3789+ files .

It also happens when i'm browesing and i scrole down or up on a webpage fast it sometimes freezes goes black and than normal.

Please anyon that can help me replay.
    Thanks.

usb on irq 11 is quite normal, as is a load of other devices ALSO using irq11.

The motherboard you reported as "Via694" do you have the bios id for it or a full make and model? If you are using XP or 2k this could indicate an acpi issue and it requires either a bios update, or turn off acpi and reload windows with a standard hal.

go here for bios updates for your ak32 There are two revisions of this board, you need to know which one you have.

Please note that flashing your bios can render the board inoperable.

    updated bios

thanks, i just updated bios from AK32S208 to AK32S20K. Right now i finished scaning my system with Norton Antivirus it scaned 183398 files, and the screen didn't freeze/go_black ones. Before runing a full system scan would almost guarantee a freez.

So I't seems like that updateing the bios might have solved the problem, but beeing me i don't consider anything solved tell i had a few days without the problem.

I'll update this form in 1-2 days and will see if it's been fixed.

    Thanks NooNoo again.
