GCE-8400b not detected
Problem:
LG CD-R/RW drive (model gce-8400b) is not detected by windows xp. If I install new ide drivers (nforce2 400 ultra) drive freezes entire system while trying to read disk. If ejected during this intensive reading, everything is back in order and system works fine, until next cd or dvd is inserted.
I'm totally out of ideas.
Configuration:
Mobo: Epox 8rda3+ nForce2 chipset
RAM: 512 Mb
uP: Amd 2600+
IDE 1 primary: old, very old 6 Gb hard drive
IDE 1 secondary: Old 55 Gb hard drive
IDE 2 primary: CGE-8400b drive ("cable select")
Windows XP, SP1, english
Help, please.

Welcome to Windrivers FutureGuru
First off, take it off cable select on the CGE-8400b and jumper it as master. Ensure that the bios sees the drive when it boots.
Next, what is shown in device manager for the cdrw?
