WIN XP for Epson Stylus Pro

I am looking for a WIN XP driver for an Epson Stylus Pro. Epson's site lists only drivers for WIN 95 and NT. Thank you.

I probably have one of the first of the Stylus Pro series (purchased in 1996). It is simply called: Stylus Pro. The XP Plug and Play does not list this Stylus Pro but several others. I have now installed the driver for the "Epson Stylus Pro ESC/P2". The test print page worked properly. If you think I should not have done this, let me know.

I have the original driver for the printer, but it is on 2 diskettes and my new computer does not have a diskette drive. I had copied it on CD but the install could not locate one of the files. I will re-copy it to a CD and try to re-install.

I also contacted Epson. They told me that the Plug and Play should work unless it is de-activated. I will ask them which driver is the closest to the one I need since mine is not listed.

The original drivers will not work with xp. If the printer is working properly with the drivers you installed, I suggest you leave it alone.

As a matter of fact, I am on my third Epson, and I notice none are really matched to Windows XP! Can't even get a twain5 driver, unless I go back to my SU 1470! I have the CX 3650 now, but this one does not have a twain5 driver, so I can't seem to get the very high quality scans I got with the old scanner. Also, the 3650 has no OCR utility! Has anyone found a solution to this? Buying Presto OCR which was free with the 1470 would cost the price of the qll in one scanner/printer!

Or could I copy the old twain5 and OCR on the 1470 smart panel and use it with the 3650? I'm afraid to try lest I get these confounded IRQ conflicts!

Maybe it's cheaper to junk XP and go Windows 2000 professional?

Can't find any reference to an SU 1470 by Epson or anyone else.

The quality of your scans should have nothing to do with having a twain5 driver. The quality of a scanned image is a function of the optical resolution of the scanner. The driver provides instructions for the transfer of that image to the computer. Nevertheless, if the driver does not recognize the capabilities of the scanner, your image quality could suffer.

Have you tried installing Presto OCR? You don't say which version you have, so I don't know if it supports xp. In any case, OCR software can be installed independent of the scanner driver. IMO, the best product out there is OmniPage. Office 2003 also comes w/ OCR built in.

You are unlikely to have better luck with W2K. XP and W2K drivers are usually the same.
