DVD not reading CD's need help finding driver

Armada e500. The DVD drive WILL not play CD's at all. I need to find the driver but they are not listed on the damn Compaq web site. It is extremely frustrating to send everything to my laptop over my cellphone it takes forever and costs alot.
Please anyone who knows where I can find this driver let me know. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Don't tell me to reinstall windows, XP does not have the proper driver.

XP *has* the driver, it has native support. I have a feeling your unit is about to die.
Insert a CD, if you don't hear it starting to rotate and sustaining the speed for few seconds then clean the drive (use a cleaning CD), if it still doesn't work it's time for a new one.

XP does not have a compatible driver...the driver XP installs will ONLY PLAY/READ DVDs. It will not play/read any audio or data CDs.

The unit is not about to die otherwise I would not be posting asking for the driver.

All I need is someone who has an Armada e500 or knows a link that has it that I am not seeing on google.

It was already said, but I'll say it again. XP does not require drivers for CD or DVD players. The drivers are native to windows. The fact that you are able to play dvd's indicates that the unit is properly installed in windows. It also suggests that the unit uses two different lasers, and that the one which handles cd playback has died. Choose not to believe it if you want, but those are the facts.
