Win95 Start Up
How can I disable items form starting up in Win95, I know there is no msconfig, and all I know of is win.ini, but thats not very helpful. This laptop keeps trying to run ie setup only to pop up with an error. Thanks

I think I'd check Start>Settings>Taskbar and Start Menu to see what was there first.

First, see if you can grab a copy of MSconfig.exe from a Win98 Machine, it should work fine.
makes things easier, or there are other utilities from download.com that can do the job like <a href="http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-1461989-100-5943130.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-5.5943130" target="_blank">Startup cop</a>
Files you may need:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSCONFIG.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\HELP\MSCONFIG.CHM
C:\WINDOWS\HELP\MSCONFIG.CNT
C:\WINDOWS\HELP\MSCONFIG.HLP
c:\windows\system\tmsconfig.dll ??don't know about this one
Three Places to look
- Start menu:
under the Startup section
often c:\windows\start menu\startup - WIN.INI
you can run SYSEDIT.exe
it should be under the [windows] section as the run= and the load= lines - Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run << this one starts up the programs no mater who logs on
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run << this one is just for the user currently logged in
also check under Runservices while in regedit under currentversion.
May the Schwartz be with you
Too many zeros, not enough ones.

Thanks! I didn't know you could do that. I will have to try that.
